In conjunction with the launch of the Volvo S80, Autoliv/Volvo Cars from Sweden presented Whips – a new system designed to protect car occupants against the risk of whiplash injuries.
The system reduces the loads on the occupant’s head and neck, thus limiting the injuries. The anti-whiplash protection system incorporated into the seat includes a small but decisive part in which the strength and toughness of the high strength steel are combined in an innovative way with the geometrical design of the part, so that good balance is achieved between the resilience of the protection device and its energy-absorbing capability.
