Area of responsibility regarding the University Steel Prize: Responsible for the jury.
Who usually applies for this prize? In the past we’ve mainly seen students and doctoral candidates in the fields of Product Development and Material Science. This year we also hope to attract several contributions from other specialist areas.
Can you give some examples of applications that have been received? Previous winners have ranged from electrically- powered vehicles to the development of new quality welding methods.
What kinds of contributions are the most interesting? If I could choose, I’d really like to see new ideas in areas we’ve not seen before. I also hope that the applications are infused by a sustainability-oriented mindset.
Do you know what previous winners are currently working on? We have contact in different contexts with many of the previous winners when they’ve chosen to continue working with steel in some form.
What is the purpose of the prize? The purpose is to inspire and see opportunities to use steel as a material. Steel can play very different roles, so we’re hoping for a very diverse range of applications
Can you offer any tips to those applying this year? Don’t make the application too complicated, but inspire us with your ideas.
